Ostinato Retrospective

Honestly overall, Im not so happy with how this game turned out. We had so many plans which would've been cool.
Everything that got cut:
- Cadenzas (Ultimate attack that would've played a solo)
- Rock Boss
- Final Boss
- EDM Era
- Status and Archetypes
- Rewards giving incantations
- My whole old room generation system
- Obstacles
This game is a holo shell of what it was supposed to be. And it was because of a big fat miscommunication/not communicating at all. We didn't communicate when we had design challenges. Two people were very adamant of what the vision is and really didn't like change which I think forced people to stay quiet. Then people lost all motivation on the game and made the communication worse somehow. I tried my best where I could. We had a fine scope if everyone was down to make a really good game but clearly not everyone was down. Overall im very dissapointed, it was such a cool idea for a game.

Welp, that last post aged poorly lol.
After going on break im realizing how much more im enjoying working on Occupational Hazards than the game im working on this year. My game this year is such a cool concept, but its weird, everyone seems so motivated, but so dead at the same time. I'm starting to wonder if burnout might be creeping in for more of the team then we're willing to admit. I think we 100% need to scope down and refocus.
Nice Change of Pace

I've spent some time with my new team, and I'm really excited for when Ostinato is finished!
(Or at least when all of the systems are complete.) It's a nice change of pace from last year. It feels
especially weird because I feel like I'm contributing less this year compared to last year, which is a
complete 180. I did get my first system into the game, and as I get more comfortable working with my team with how they operate,
I'll be able to pump more work out.

Since I've recently been focused on making my code better and more efficient,
I decided to revisit the code from my Pokemon Gen 3 framework and implement the sound
and music system I created the other day. While doing that, I also decided to try fixing
an issue I had with my cutscene system that caused me to put this project on the backburner.
Essentially, anytime I tried to create a new custom battle, it would break the Unity editor.
Well, not only did I manage to add my sound and music system, but I also fixed that issue.
Maybe I'll return to this project now that there aren't any problems with it.

Yeah, I don't know why I didn't do this earlier, but I created a sound system
where I can call sounds from any script in Unity, and it just plays. I don't need to
reference it in the hierarchy or anything just drop the sounds into a sound folder and
voila, sound! I did the same with music, adding loop points so the song actually flows,
along with functions for fading in, fading out, and pausing the song. The best part is
that I can reuse this system for any future project I decide to work on. I just saved
an infinite amount of time with this.
